Alert

ALERT!

On the Vought website, the “Working During The Strike” pages give WRONG information about union membership. Don’t make a BIG mistake.

Vought says that you can be an IAM member and still cross an IAM picket line and not be subject to Union fines and discipline. The company says that by becoming a “financial core” member, you can retain IAM membership but only owe dues and fees with no other responsibility. The company is WRONG. There is no two-tier IAM membership.

Here is the real story. Many other states allow unions to collect dues or fees from everyone covered by a CBA, whether they belong to the union or not. Members pay union dues, and non-members pay what is called an agency fee. Courts sometimes call this second group “financial core members” to highlight the fact that their only obligation or responsibility is to pay that fee. But don’t be confused by the wording. The law is absolutely clear that such fee payers do not belong to the union and are not union members. In saying otherwise, Vought is flatly WRONG.

Even worse, the concept of “financial core” membership does not even apply in Tennessee, where unions are only allowed to collect from members. If an employee does not want to belong to the union, he or she can freeload on the backs of union members and collect the benefits of having a CBA for nothing. They owe no “financial core,” so there is no such thing as being a “financial core” member in this state. Vought is either ignorant of the law or trying to mislead you. Either way, Vought is WRONG.

One news story should be concerned with who is in there working on the aircraft structures? Is it possible that office workers and other unskilled salaried types are attempting to drill precision holes and install precision hardware in critical Aircraft structural components heading towards Airbus, Lockheed and Gulfstream, without proper training. Maybe the FAA should run an audit. Look at whoever is buying off inspections first, their stamp will be smoking…

Proud To Be Union !!!!

Hello to all my union brothers and sisters,

I just wanted to say a little bit about my union (IAM735).
I have never been any more proud than I am today in my union. A couple of days ago I saw the first uprising of the union that I've ever seen. Being a union member for only a short time, What I saw was simply amazing. The company committee had stopped talking to the union committee in negotiations. They called an "all hands" meeting to talk about the proposal. As I walked into the area where the meeting was supposed to be held people were handing out the basic outline of the contract proposal. When I first looked at it,it didn't look all that great. The more I looked at it the worst it got. It said I would get a 3,000 dollar signing bonus but after taxes it's only 1,700. Insurance was different; I had to ask myself are the doctors that I trust with my health part of this insurance? And my pension where did it go? OH MY GOD !!!! They are taking away everything. Then a person from the company committee stood at the microphone and said these words "can everyone hear me in the back'' some one said'' WHERE IS OUR COMMITTEE?" his reply was "the company committee would like to talk to you about the proposal." This is where my first look at unity in the work place happened. The crowd new what the company was doing was wrong. They weren't going to stand there and listen to what they were pushing on us. The crowd started yelling strike, strike!!!. I was feeling empowered this group of people came together in an instant "united". I have been in the aviation field for fifteen years. I've never left Nashville. It was hard to make a living. The highest dollar amount I made still had me at the poverty level. My benefits were low, nothing to speak of, it was tough. But when I got the job I have now I have good pay, a pension, and finally a life. I don't want something for nothing. Just an honest day of pay for an honest day of work. To be paid what I know I'm worth. To have food on the table and a roof over my head. With the union I got these things, I had a voice that would be heard! and I owe it all to the men and women in the union before me. Who fought for the rights of the people. Now it's my turn. I chose to strike because the company wasn't giving us anything. They were taking things that mattered away. If we let the company do away with the things we need to have (food, shelter, health, and retirement)then we are failing to secure a good living for the brothers and sisters of our future union. If we let the company take these things away do you think they will ever offer them again?NO I say to the ones that have been in the union for many years thank you. Thank you for standing up for yours and my rights. You've fought long and hard and there is a new generation coming in. I ask you to show the next generation what it means to stand united even in the toughest of times so we will know what to do when you are gone. To the men and women that are like me "new" to the scene. I ask you to stand with me. Do not budge no matter what is coming at us. PLEASE DON'T CROSS THAT LINE! Be strong and it will benefit us all. Don't buckle. Today I have what I have because of the union.

Proud To Be Union !!!!

Media Statement
Vought Contingency Plans
NASHVILLE, SEPT. 30, 2008 -- This week Vought Aircraft Industries is bringing in 250 experienced contract workers to help sustain aircraft subassembly production at its Nashville facility. The company has provisions for bringing in up to 500 aircraft contractors as necessary.
Approximately 200 salaried employees at the plant are now assigned to the production floor. In addition, other Vought facilities and organizations may be called upon to support the Nashville site.
These actions are part of Vought's strike contingency plans, designed to mitigate disruption to our operations and minimize impact to our customers.

if anyone cares this was on the vought web site this morning

In response to the companies “media statement” I share the words of my friend Dan Miller who is a life coach working here in the greater Nashville/metro area. His words were not directed towards Vought’s management team but I direct his words toward them.

Ref:

Just doing a job cannot justify doing something unethical, immoral, or dishonest. The guards in the German concentration camps, after becoming friends with the prisoners, would often justify walking them to the gas chambers with, "I'm just doing my job."

I know we have all been inundated with the messy details of the unraveling of Wall Street so I won’t bore you with more of the same. However, hopefully we will learn the lessons from this blatant example of what’s wrong with the common corporate mentality. Greed, deceit, and a “culture of corporate corruption” can never be justified.

Unfortunately, this is just one more historical example of moral meltdown. When people at the top justify one little breach of integrity and then compound it with another to cover the first.

Adolf Hitler, Jim Jones and many others have served as models for leading “normal” individuals to lose all ethical perspective for the good of the cause. And the end result seems to be very predictable --- devastation to thousands of innocent people.

Thomas Stanley, in his landmark book, “The Millionaire Mind,” lists the top five factors most often displayed by millionaires in explaining their economic success: (1) Integrity – being honest with all people, (2) Discipline – applying self control, (3) Social Skills – getting along with people, (4) A Supportive Spouse, and (5) Hard Work. Notice the number one characteristic – Integrity. Without that, any “success” is likely to be short-lived.

What is it that you are justifying doing just because it's part of your job? Just because you have the ability to do something is not enough reason to continue doing it - if it violates your values and common sense. If in the completion of your job or business, someone else is ultimately made poorer or taken advantage of, you are in great danger. (Prov 22:22-23) Stop immediately, no matter what it takes.

If your work doesn't express your true values, you're setting yourself up for deceit in other areas of your life. And for the invasion of ulcers, migraines, cancers as evidence of a less than authentic life. In the movie Cool Hand Luke, a guard says, "I'm just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that." And Paul Newman responds: "Nah, Calling it your job don't make it right, boss." I agree.

Henry David Thoreau once said: "A man had better starve at once than lose his innocence in the process of getting his bread."

Up to 500 contractors huh?? Going to cost them more just in pay then it would have to just fix the 401K nightmare AND they would have been guaranteed QUALITY WORK!!!

Salaried employees on the production line is a scary concept in itself. Although there are a few I would love to see out there doing manual labor, actually breaking a sweat and coming home sore as anything.

Side note: In all fairness (which is a joke in itself with Vought), I think all of these contractors and salaried employees should be subjected to the random drug testing policy :0).

It would be worth a months pay (almost) to see MS. Bebe get her hands and clothes dirty. Bringing in workers from other plants? What for , they couldn't do our work when they had it. Hang in there! The scene in the plant has to be hilarious.

by the way...aren't the other plants union and if not will they cross our line?

Hello my Brothers and sisters, I just wanted to say how prould I am to be apart of IAM 735 and to be your coworker. I know alot of lies are being spread at this time. I have listen to some myself, but I have also looked to verify some of them. If you have looked on the companys web page you will see some of these.
I was looking on Craigs list this morning and I came across an add for employment under the
Nashville Tennessee
Employment
15 September 2008
This posting is from the Johnson Service Group for Assemply/ sheetmetal Mechanics for Nashville Area. One of the Job requirements is : Aerospace background required. I wounder if the posting today from the company saying that they had 250 people working contractors got them before the 27 of September 2008 or are they still tring to find workers? Just for your Information
I thought that this was interesting.

I wonder how much of that money Johnson Service Group is pocketing from that add.

When I used to worked for a defence contractor, I made 23.00 an hour but the company charged the customer like 80.00 an hour per employee.

Anyway!!
good research NEZ!

THE COMPANY OFFERED US A GOOD CONTRACT, BY FRIDAY WE ALL WILL BE $.3000.00 IN THE HOLE,PLUS YOUR WEEKS SALARY . OUR NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE WOULD NOT EVEN TELL US WHAT THEIR PROPOSALS WERE. THEY LET THE INTERNATIONAL MIS-LEAD ALL OF US. THE INTERNATIONAL WANTED THEIR PENSION PLAN, THE COMPANY SAID NO, SO THEREFOR THEY DID NOT WANT VOUGHTS PLAN. WHEN YOU ARE DEAD ASS BROKE YOU CAN THANK YOUR COMMITTEE FOR BRAIN WASHING YOU INTO TURNING DOWN A GOOD CONTRACT.

Oh poor pol harvee, a Paul Harvey want-to-be without the intellect. You are either a disgruntled salaried person or an oozing scab that has crossed the picket line. Your first sentence was a dead give away. You said, 'by Friday, 'we' would all be $3000.00 in the hole, plus 'your' weeks salary'. Looks like it didn't cost you your weeks salary. I'm so sorry that you have chosen to be in that $3000.00 hole, but believe this is exactly where you need to be. You might discover who you are while lurking around in that dark money hole. Miracles do happen. Whenever you are starving to death, please feel free to call upon your almighty company brother, as I am quite sure they will prepare you a feast. Do leeches eat leeches?

To all of my Union Brothers and Sisters:
I would like to share a quote with you from Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"Take the first step in faith, you don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step".

Well, Brothers and Sisters we have taken that first step for a greater cause and all of us should be very proud! Remember to always STAND TALL, STAND PROUD AND STAND UNITED! In the long run, we only hit what we aim at!

Proud to be a Union Lady!
