Monday Morning!

All hands on deck Monday morning at 6 AM for a show of strength to the arrogant Vought management and the scab workers. We will show them we aren't going anywhere, and they won't have any production until we have a contract. Be sure EVERYONE comes out to show our determination and Tennessee Solidarity! Let Vought know they can't divide us - because United We Bargain, Divided We Beg.

And WE DON'T BEG!

Thank God that I haven't been in management and had to compromise my faith and principles that I was raised on. It must be difficult to face yourself when there isn't any integrity left in your souls.

93% of us voted on this strike. It would be a great show of strength to let them see everyone of our faces on Monday. Some of them don't have computers, so call them and let them know.

correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think those goons standing around the gates are there to protect us. these people are complete idiots, cream of the crop. they must make headquarters very proud.

Someone should look up the phrase IN GOOD FAITH and then define it for everyone to see. Then we will know Who isn't willing to negotiate---------Maxie, look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls. then practice what you preach for the truth will set you free.

THIS IS FOR DEAR OLD DAN THARP. I READ YOUR LETTER THAT YOU PUT ON THE VOUGHT WEB SITE. I ALSO READ MY UNION WEB SITE. NOW SOMEONE IS LIEING. I KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN APPROCHED AND YOU SAID YOUR SELF THAT THE COMPANY DID NOT THINK THE UNION WOULD STRIKE. AND YOU SAID THAT YOU EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS A BAD CONTRACT. YOU ALSO NEED TO TELL YOUR WEB MASTER TO TAKE THE NEGOTIATIONS ICON OFF YOUR WEB SITE. THERE IS NO NEGOTIATIONS WHEN YOU SHOW UP WITH GAURDS. GIVE ME A BRAKE.NOW I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH PULL YOU HAVE,BUT YOU AND THE COMPANY NEED TO QUIT PLAYING GAMES AND BE THE PROFFESIONALS THAT YOU SAY YOU ARE. BECAUSE EVERY TIME YOU PULL SOMETHING LIKE WHAT YOU DID THIS WEEK THE UNION JUST GETS STRONGER AND STRONGER.WHEN YOU GET TIRED OF OF THROWING MONEY AWAY AND MAKING CUSTOMERS MAD GIVE THE LOCAL 735 A CALL WE WILL GET YOU OUT OF THE HOT SEAT... "FOR A FEE OF COURSE" REMEMBER YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Thought for the day:

"You never know how strong you are until being strong is the ONLY choice you have"
- Stolen from some myspace bumper sticker haha

This is true for all of us. We have NO other choice. We will get through this together.

Now before some of you nay-sayers on the message boards start saying we have another choice (Yeah we all know who I am talking about "Hi Replacements!!") think about this:

We have come too far in this fight to back down. I know we have families and children but what will we be teaching our children by letting go and not fighting with everything we have? We will be teaching them NOT to fight as adults. We will be teaching them that being a bully is ok and if they are being bullied they should just cower down and give in. Is that really what we want them to learn?

As others have said- Christmas is about family not price tags. I have seen people posting about doing things in the community that help others during the holidays. We will be doing exactly that at Safe Haven- the only homeless shelter in Middle TN that lets families stay together. What better way to appreciate what we have and emphasize family?

brothers and sisters please talk to a member of the of the negotiation committee before determining what is actually going on with neotiations it is more than just the 401k plan.the commitee would neogiate anything the company brought to the table. if the company was honest.and ready to talk. lets hang tough.

Brothers and sisters,
This is the latest series to write on so I will ask it here.
Please take the time to check your spelling, use a dictionary if you are not sure,or slow down on your typing. I get excited and don't pay attention also but I go back and proof what I've written.
I'll be there Monday morning,be careful and STAND STRONG!!!!

The company has set a new precident, and the smart thing to do would be to follow it. It would not be in our best interest to negotiate with them without our own lawyer present and a member of our own negotiating committee videotaping and audiotaping the proceedings. However, it is not in our best interest to go in with armed guards. That is a dangerous precident. We have experienced the ways in which they twist the truth into blatant lies and spread them around in the press. It is time for us to spread the truth. It's time for us to appeal to the public and our union brothers and sisters around the world. It's time to speak seriously to our state and federal representatives. In Tennessee, there are few people who will cross a picket line. Even non-union people respect a worker's rights. We need to do everything right. We can't allow ourselves to stoop to their level. We have to tell the truth in a very big way and allow public opinion to help us turn this around.

Anonymous said...

Reading Dan Tharpe's letter could make someone rant, but short and sweetly put.

WE HAD A NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE BEFORE THE STRIKE AND YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO THEM THEN!

Now why are you surprised that we have to have our IAM reps from the International HQ? Is this what it takes to wake your team up?

NO TAKEAWAYS!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

The company chose to take us on a rollercoaster ride. They presented that they were willing to come back to the table and negotiate in good faith. Instead they showed up with armed guards and refuse to address local 735 proposals. Vought chose to bypass the negotiation committee. Until Maxie or his puppet handlers are ready to negotiate in good faith; they better realize this is not 1989 and come into the 21st century.

The Grinch That Stole Christmas

Remember that scene when the Grinch slithered into town and stole all that stuff, even from the kids. Now he's in Vought Management.

Too bad we don't have a huge Grinch for the front gate...

Anonymous said...

I agree they have once again made this union stronger. Like when they tried to talk about the contract before we were even suppose to see it. Instead of trying to work out a fair contract they say here ya go. Then they act like kids and try to take us to the pricipals office with the contract and say they wouldn't look at it. I don't think they know what to do next, except try to cover up things with more lies to try to make themselves feel better. If there were armed guards , there were armed guards. No other way around it Danny boy. I am very proud of this union and it seems to keep getting stronger. I know it tough out there but its getting tougher on them. Their 4th qrt earnings will show that. All that money they made was from our hard work , not scab labor. So much profit for them and all they wanna do is take away from us, I don't think so and 93% doesn't think so. You may get some people to cross by telling lies but if they cross they were scabs to start with. We the people of local 735 stand strong and will overcome whatever may come our way.

They could have givin us what we wanted from all the money they have waisted during this strike.

Anonymous said...

I've thought about this for a long time tonight, as to what I wanted to say.
To those who are in doubt as to what we are out here for. Not so long ago families went to where the work was (coal mines)etc. To provide for their families, not having the means to travel and the company store being handy they became indebited to the company.
As time went on the bread winners died (cave-ins, Black Lung) and the family was thrown out of a company house. They organized and fought back, they were beaten and murdered by the same kind of thugs vought has brought in.
Why would someone cross the line? Me being a proud southern man,and being taught right from wrong, I know better. Do you not have any moral value? Maybe that's why they tried this because they think we're all redneck hillbillys. Although these are terms of endearment to some of us. I know some of you are hurting but I'll ask how hard have you looked for a job? Is Pizza Hut not hiring? Is this work beneath you? I've done lots of things to survive. We are on the street asking for betterment for ourselves. If you as an individual think the last offer was good enough maybe that's all you deserve. The neg committee has nothing to gain by not talking to the company. Why blame them?
Without the UNIONs before us a lot of us would have been beaten or killed out right. vought would not have had second thoughts about it in the old days, and probably has thought about it. Now they try an gain public sympathy by having to arm themselves against this mean UNION membership. Sure UNIONs have fought dirty just like companys did, that's where we learned it.
All I'm saying is don't sell out,I know hungry children will make a man or woman do things that they don't want to do. Go to the UNION hall see what help you can get. Have you cancelled your cable or sat tv? Taken all the bells and whistles off your phone? Look at what you don't have to keep to survive. Sell that boat, car or horse.
I don't hate this company, I pity their mgt. They employed me to do a job and I believe I do it well in a difficult area of the plant. That's why I can sleep at night I don't steal from them and they make money off my work. All I want to do is keep up with the rest of the world and not have to live on Alpo when I'm old.
Crossing the line isn't an option for me.How could I live with myself knowing I wouldn't stand up for what I believe in? Being eaten alive from within, always wondering are they talking about me? Why do I feel so guilt ridden? How could I look my children in the face, them knowing I comprised my principles? I will be there Monday morning despite walking 8pm-12am. I BELIEVE!!!!

Your goal should not be to get a job, but to get two jobs until this is over. And then if you find a better job discard the worst one. We are blessed to live in Middle Tennessee where the economy is stronger than much of the nation. There's work out there. Have a better work ethic than an illegal immigrant and you'll go far.

We should get together and sing Christams carols at Maxie's house on Christmas Eve if we're still out.

Back in the 1920's, my grandfather worked at a cotton mill in Huntsville, AL. He had a wife and 6 children, and they lived in company housing. He voted to unionize the plant, but they lost by only a few votes. Because of this, he was fired from his job. ARMED GUARDS from the company went to their house and forced my Grandmother and her 6 small children out of their home--just like that. They refused to let them have their belongings, even though my grandfather paid for them with his own money, because they wanted to make sure he was not in debt to the company. He wasn’t. My grandfather did not believe in credit. If he did not have the cash to pay for it, they did without.

When the company brought armed guards to deal with the good men and women of our negotiating committee, I could not help but think about what happened to my grandparents and their children. It seems that companies like to use armed guards against innocent people—even a gentle, Christian, loving 4’8” tall mother and her 6 small children.

Of those six children, there was only one son--the youngest child. When he grew up, he went to work at Ferro Fiberglass in Nashville and eventually became the president of their union. He died too young of lung cancer because of the dust and debris he breathed in from the fiberglass. He left a wife and five children and more grandchildren than you can shake a stick at. But he left too soon, and we miss him.

Today, we stand on the line—just like they did—not just for us, but for our children and their children. It is a fragile line, and what we do today determines how strong that line becomes in the future. We stand on the line so that we don’t have to watch helplessly while they take away everything we've worked for. We stand on the line so that we are not forced to place our hard-earned money into a failing system that’s based on a gamble and hope we are lucky enough to retire in a good year. Our Avco brothers and sisters stood on the line in the past so that we could have a retirement plan that no one could touch—that wouldn’t fail during bad economic times. Men and women just like us stood outside the plant fighting for that right, and they won. They stood on the line to prevent departmental seniority and other unfair practices. Are we going to throw away what they fought so hard for? I’m not. I’m standing on the line, brothers and sisters. AND I SHALL NOT BE MOVED!!!!

Does everyone understand that Dan Tharp is talking only to the people inside that plant on his lastest response on Vought's website ? The question I have is, who has threaten him or Maxie to the point to even have any kind of armed escort at anytime? He talks about his workers safety, apparently that doesn't mean us.In the last 4 days ,we have people that have been bumped with a car not once but twice and now we have them jumping out of a car threatening strikers with a object in their hand. Now, this is the people working inside your plant MR.Tharp that you say you are protecting.Well, understand this VERY clearly ! If you allow this to esculate to this level then you will be held fully responsible for their actions and will be responsilble in the legal actions that will be filed. Company or not ,union or not, strike or not there is no excuse for this kind of action.I am shocked that someone that is in your position tolerates this and you are setting a dangerous precedent that I don't think Vought can afford!

Last night I happened to hear Mr. Talk Radio Host talking about the Vought strike. He said that the Vought employees don't have the right to expect what they are asking. He said those things are just "benefits". He said benefits are things that a company uses to "entice" good workers. I guess he thinks it is supposed to be OK to take those benefits away after the company employes those good workers. (Benefits? Oh, we were just kidding about them.) Does Mr. Talk Radio Host want to fly in a plane built by unskilled workers? Not likely! Neither does the rest of the population.
My husband has been employed at Vought, or the company under several former names, for about forty years. I remember the early years when there was a strike every, yes every, three years. We had small children then and it was kinda tough. But we made it. And we will this time. We can't lose any part of what was won in the past.
This is all about family. The families of the employees, and the Union family. Obviously it isn't about the Company family. There is no Company family.

I have heard from people inside." they can't wait to tell me stuff when I get back" they " don't know where Tharp is getting his info" They are in danger of losing contracts. It seems Tharp and company are lying. I don't want to lose any contracts but I will not accept the same crap in Nov. that they offered in Sep. I have friends that went to Gulfstream as contractors and were sent home within a week, WHY, because they can't get wings from Vought to work on. But Elmo and Tharp say they are near pre strike levels.
I thought Ins. was main issue, but it has changed to Pension now. Both are important and the company and our team need to work it out. I will not settle for the same thing, like they offered in 89. This is the first time I have seen this Union stand up in a long time and I will back you all the way. The company needs to see that we are tired of being screwed. they post what money we have lost ???? I think the union needs to post what it is costing Vought for Scabs, Buses and hotel, I'm sure it's more than what they say we lost. I want to see them hide all the 4th quarter money they lost. I guess that will be Jan. Then the truth will set us free

I’d like to thank everyone for your words of encouragement here on this blog.

I know this is no place to voice your fears and differences, though fears and differences are understandable.
Even though we may not all see thing exactly the same, at lease we can count on each other.
That is one thing the salary workers and scabs will never have.

Remember that you can bring your hard question to the Union Hall on the second Tuesday of every month.
The President and other union officers are also available through the month to help with your concerns.

Thank you all for being responsible and supportive.

I saw where Vought was named the top ten places to work according to the six sigma. That is a training class guys and gals. You know the one that they wasted millions of dollars on for management to sleep through ( ACROSS FROM THE BOND SHOP, THEY PUT BROWN PAPER UP TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM LOOKING IN AT THEM FALLING ASLEEP, WHILE THE BORING INSTRUCTOR GAVE THE CLASS) instead of putting that money into safety for the little people down on the floor. DBA, THE LEAN PROGRAM, SIX SIGMA, just another way for Vought to WAST MONEY on their management and salary.
IT SURE MAKES THEM SMARTERRRRRR DON,T. IT

AS FOR THEIR ARMED GUARDS, I BET THEIR TWO FOOT TALL TWO FOOT WIDE WEEBLE WAS THE LEADER OF THE PACK. HE'S A BAD BAD PUTTIE CAT

AS FOR THE COMPANY'S FEELINGS TOWARD THE INTERNATIONAL, GET OVER IT! IT'S A FAIR FIGHT AND YOUR JUST A SORE LOSER. INTIMIDATION WILL GET YOU NO WHERE. THANKS RON, TERRY, BOB W, MARK, AND BOB M. WE GOT YOUR BACK
COME ON MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, LETS WALK THE LINE MONDAY. UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL

A little message to anyone who might be having doubts or is thinking about crossing the line. If you have made it this long , you can make it the rest of the way. There will be plenty of money with the overtime they will be offering when we get back in there. If you are in dire need call the union hall, they will help any way they can. Its like someone else said you may have to get 2 jobs if your bills are that extreme but it will pay off. We are doing a great job out on the lines, much better than the company thought we would. Maxie and his army of guards thought they had us figured out but he doesn't. This is a knew thinking union , different than 89 or in the past. We have each others backs. So if you cross you are not helping nobody but yourself and you are leaving your brothers and sisters behind on the street. Your name is gone and replaced with SCAB. United we bargain - Divided we beg !!! We all want to go back to work and if Danny boy really wanted to end this strike he would do it the right way, sit down and work it out like ADULTS and not lets see who has the biggest gun.

Maybe there needs to be a new saying Remember The IAM 735 in 2008. So maybe we do need to stay out the entire whole 4th quater to see what production numbers they will post with there scab labor. We do know the real truth. That the IAM was still producing during the whole 3rd quarter.

I like the new comment on voughts web site. Saying how you are lucky just to have a job. What a comment. Truely a person who must know it all. Thats like saying your lucky to be alive. Don't live right, hell just live anyway you want as long as your alive. This is not just some job. Its jobs that require skilled labor and your working enviornment isn't always that great. Does pizza hut have a pension plan, Mcy D's ? Those are just jobs, right? This guy needs a degree in reality. I always like it when someone dogs the union or anything and they don't know what the hell is going on. Layoffs are going to happen, we all know this. Its a risk you take while doing this type of work, then again, is why our rewards should be higher. Vought is grabbing at straws by posting it on the front page.....P-p-p-leassssse.

Vought is paying the scabs a lot of money to cross your picket line. They make $20 an hour per diem and it is tax free. Regular hours bring in $25 an hour and $40 an hour for overtime. The scabs are getting rich while you are on the picket line.

I have been on both sides of the fence. I have always wondered what would happen if the union were to accept their terms and work through the holiday season. Then go back out the gate when the company has no plan to bring in replacement workers. Why not play dirty with these people? Let them think they won and the cripple them.

Anonymous said...

On voughts web page they posted a newsclip about their SC plant it reads "Thursday, Vought said it was surprised to learn that its employees ... apparently ratified a contract that was not its final offer." So lets get this straight it was the last day that the union could vote it in but it was not Voughts final offer!!!!! Then they post a letter that was in the Tennessean about the Nashville strike anyone who reads the Tennessean daily knows this poor misguided soul spends his days writing letters to the editor in hopes of winning a free meal at the end of the year paid for by the paper for a three star letter. What a joke!

Anonymous said...

Vought Aircraft workers are on strike for the fifth week. It doesn’t matter what they are striking for — they had a good paying job and are refusing to work for a reason that is important to them.

From the first paragraph on article they posted on Vought's web site. Looks like they're on to something here. It is that important to us! Nice to see that the braggarts are still up to no good and no surprise either. Looks like another act of desperation on Vought once again.

Anonymous said...

Vought's web page is titled Nashville site negotiations. One question for them to answer, after reading the newest posting.

Is there a Nashville, South Carolina?

Sheer brilliance shines once again on their comprehensive skills and reaching for straws to grab hold of. Just to help them out, Nashville is in Tennessee, now can you find your ways to the next negotiations without your armed guards, or will you get lost. MapQuest.com can help you guys out on that too.

Stay strong brothers and sisters. Think of this as a layoff with only half of the unemployement insurance. What would you have done if you were out on layoff? You would hit the bricks and get a job, sell the junk you have been looking at in those closets or the attic that you think might be worth something someday. Well it is someday.
As for the new letter to the editor VOUGHT has posted...
It seems that Mr. George Reynolds is bored, very bored. I Googled his name and zip code and he has had letters published on several subjects from LOUD MUSIC IN DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE and CARL DEAN AND THE GOP to NASHVILLE AMONG NATIONS WORST CARBON EMMISIONS. Come on Mr Reynolds...
What a country. You can express your opinion to the world in print when no one will listen
(or agree) face to face.

How about when this is all over you and I go Honky Tonkin' on Broadway in my Monster Truck and give ole Mayor Dean a visit.

As it turns out Mr. Reynolds has a letter to the editor printed every few days so he must be BORED out of his mind. Hey maybe we can recruit him as an honorary picket walker with us on Mondays.

Hi ALL my IAM 735 Friends! I was thinking about all of you and the numerous events that has taken place in the last week or so and I felt that I needed to say something especially to the younger employees that probably really don't know who I am or anything about me!In all the years I worked in that plant I gained a high level of respect for some of your older brothers and sisters thru many years of ups and downs and believe me we had some bad times but one thing I know that you need to understand is they are sticking together this time not only for themselves but more so for you because their time is short to retirement and most could of lived with the 53 but you are the future they are trying to protect and it is you that will gain the most over the years. The fight isn't just about them but for you the same as the ones before them did.I can't imagine how hard it probably is for you but you need to find a way to stick this out to the end!Jobs are few but they are out there to get you by .Nothing comes easy for anyone anymore in this world especially when you know your right and your fighting against corporate greed. This I know VERY WELL and some say I lost but I tell you this! I will not sell my soul or morality to no man even if I'm the poorer for it because the happiness in my heart out ways the lost 100 times over. Don't give up your rights !Stand Together ! Now here come the Joke!

Six Sigma - What is Six Sigma?

Six Sigma at many organizations simply means a measure of quality that strives for near perfection. Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving towards six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process -- from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.

This is one of the

Best prayers

I think I have ever read.

PRAY THIS EVEN IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE IT!!

IT WILL ONLY TAKE A MINUTE.
I understood God to say,

'You need a miracle tomorrow'

so here goes...Prov. 29:25

You never know when God is going to bless you!!

Good things happen when
you least expect them to !!!!!!!!

Dear Lord, I thank You for this day,

I thank You for my being able to see,and to hear this morning.

I'm blessed because, You are a forgiving God,and an understanding God.

You have done so much for me, and You keep on blessing me.

Forgive me this day for everything
I have done, said or,thought that was not pleasing to you.

I ask now for Your forgiveness.
Please keep me safe from all danger and harm.

Help me to start this day with a new attitude, and plenty of gratitude.

Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind, that I can accept all things.

Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over, and give me the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits.

I know that when I can't pray,
You listen to my heart.

Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be
a blessing to others.

Keep me strong that I may help the weak...

Keep me uplifted that I may have
words of encouragement for others.

I pray for those that are lost,
and can't find their way.

I pray for those that are misjudged, and misunderstood.

I pray for those who don't know You intimately.

I pray for those that will ignore this without sharing it with others.

I pray for those that don't believe.

I thank You that I believe that God changes people, and God changes things.

I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households.

I pray for peace, love, and joy in their homes; that they are out of debt, and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God.

Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight.

I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it in Jesus' name. Amen!

God Bless The Members of IAM Local Lodge 735 ! ! ! ! !
