Vought Story

From the Channel 4 website:

Vought Strike Continues

Negotiators Were Armed, Union Officials Say

POSTED: 11:10 am CST November 13, 2008
UPDATED: 12:09 pm CST November 13, 2008

Federal mediators didn't work out any contract issues Wednesday at Vought Aircraft Industries.

According to union officials, Vought negotiators arrived armed with guns.

Federal mediators tried to keep the peace by attempting to hash out the unsettled issues between the company and union officials. The two sides never spoke face to face.

The strike began at the end of September. About 800 union workers are now on strike but have been replaced by temporary workers.

One word, folks. Priceless.

ANON SAYS:

I can’t help but laugh when I think of the spectacle Vought made on Wednesday when they appeared at the meeting surrounded by armed guards. Not having been there to see it, I have the advantage of my imagination to fill in the blanks. I can just imagine the planning that went into that little comedy-drama, and the much ado about nothing it must have been. I can just see the company hiring a drama coach, perhaps a rather effeminate figure who prances around, waving his hands in dramatic gestures, calling out things like, “Look stern, people! That’s it! Make me believe it! You, there, Guard Number two, show me your gun! Oh, that’s it! Splendid! Now, growl for me, baby. Oh, that’s frightening! Good boy!”

Big strong Vought, little brain, make Union afraid with big scary Men in Black.

Come out and play Vought, when you come back down to earth and face reality!

Why does the company feel they need guns. Have they done something wrong that could make someone mad? If they felt they were in the right it should never occur to them that they need arms. We're not coal miners. They must feel guilty about something.

and thats the rest of the story.........

I think we need to give vought a copy of " negotiations for dummies " maybe that will get them started on how to resolve this mess they have made. you don't put out a fire with gasoline.....duh

Dang this sounds like its from the old west or something. What do they need armed guards for? They need to be working out a deal not trying to look all tough. I wonder who keeps making these intelligent decisions?

please say a prayer for our union brother mike jones who's grandson passed away this week. mike usually walks our picket line on saturday, but will be attending the funeral..

Lets all do what we have to to make ends meet the best we can and let Christmas be the way it should be anyway!Family and Good friends like all of you and thanks to God for what we do have !No costly gifts and that's what it really is all about anyway. In case you wonder ,I'm cutting wood during the day and fliping hamburgers in the evening till 9:00.It's honest work and I don't have to ask this company for nothing. I feel good about myself when I laydown at night.

Vought is being laughed at all over Tennessee for the armed guard deal. Vought needs new leaders to help them deal with this strike, because they don't have a clue. Vought does not have any pride in how they look to the rest of the world and thats a big mistake.

Hey Union Brothers and Sisters! There were alot of us there in 83 till late 88 and got laid off just months before we had our 5 years in. We lost our retirement and senority and I went to work making a LOT LESS for 10 yrs, like 300.00 a week.It was hard, I missed the good money, was glad to come back at a good paying job with good retirement benifits like alot of you.Now it's very upsetting not only for me but alot of you also. I am 62 yrs. old and do not have the time to makeup for the retirement in a 401k.This proposal by the company is as unfair as anything I've ever seen when you compare wages and retirement at other aircraft company's to ours and they keep wanting to take away.I've made good money as well as you but we earned it!Lets get us a GOOD contract so we can go back but if the company doesn't want to be fair ,THE OLD COUNTRY BOYS AND GIRLS know how to survive !!!!!

They could at least messed up Maxies hair. Maybe we need some protection, like some cock fighting roosters or something.

it is a same that Maxie has not got a pair anymore. He has to be tucked into bed at night by guards and driven to work by guards. He could not even face our negotiation commitee, without armed guards.

It is a good think for Vought that Dallas controlls thier negotiation team, this allows Maxie time to try to grow a new pair of balls.

We have to stand strong brothers and sisters!! This is not easy on anyone, but if we stick together we can win this. I am willing to stay out as long as it takes, and I will do whatever I have to in order to get by. People should stop their mumbling and complaining and do whatever it takes to make it through this, and we will all be better for it in the end! How about we stop all this anonymous B.S.too. If you have something to say, then be BIG enough to put your name behind it! Also, someone wrote that we should provide and "armed escort" for our committee to the next meeting whenever that may be. I'm all for that, just say the word...

Vought needs to review upper management's diversity training. They seek to exclude people who want their company "vested pension plan" (how greedy we must be), who want a fair industry level pay raise, who belong to a labor union that has worked in this plant over 12 times longer than they have. Vought has bragged about being inclusive but now they are spending millions to discriminate against hundreds of their own employees. Maybe it started long ago when they decided that Tennesseans deserved so much less pay than Texans. Was that addressed in diversity class. Probably not, even when Texas C130 tails looked like something else or GIV wings took around 40,000 hours to assemble in Texas dollars. How can you run a successful company when you despise your own work force? Is that possible? Is that smart management?

I agree with what was said about making this a good Christmas by finding the REAL meaning of Christmas. During my last really hard lay-off, which of course occurred over Christmas, my wife and I had four children at home. We couldn't afford much, so we did something special that our children, who are grown now and have children of their own, still remember as being "the best Christmas we ever had." We spent Christmas Eve working with the Homeless at Room in the End, which is a church-sponsored program that feeds and shelters the homeless during the winter months. We served them Christmas dinner that night and sat down with them to share their meal. I brought my guitar, and we all sang Christmas carols. We had also brought some Christmas movies on tape, which we all watched together. That was the most wonderful Christmas we have ever had. Jesus said, "When you do it for the least of my children, you do it for me." I can't think of a better gift to give Jesus for his birthday, can you? Many churches in most communities sponsor Room in the End programs. If you have children, it would be one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

Really, when you think about it, the armed guards thing is just soooo Texas. Can you say Dallas??

Looks like it's time to bump up the Monday morning rally and have more people show up, after seeing how this last "negotiation" went. Get there earlier than 6 a.m. if you want to see the "big men" with the Men in Black escorts.

Hey maxie if you are scared jump in my pocket! Now lets wait one minute, were they packing water pistols or mag lights, because the (mag light mafia) do have light carring permits.LOL. Should we be suprised with maxie? NO. He is and allways will be an arrogant rod stewart looking turd. It is unbelieveable the lies that this company is putting out. But we all know the truth about what is really going on. We'll just keep standing strong, sticking together, and waiting this thing out.

This goes out to the scabs that have crossed the picket line in order to go back and work at Vaught. You are no longer a brother or sister. You have choosen to stand alone. You didn't just sell us out, but you sold out your families that work there also. I see you as a gutless, spineless, greedy turd. You have turned your backs on your brothers and sisters that were willing to fight for you and your job! We (LOCAL 735) have guts, spine, and are SOLID AS A ROCK!!! AC/DC

LOCAL 735 HOORAA (LOVE MY BROTHERS @ SISTERS) you make me proud!!!
