You should be able to pick them up on your day that you walk the picket line. Some of us don't live close and with gas prices the way they are this is not right. Are we not also trying to save as much money as possible so we can fight the company on strike for as long as we can hold out.

What theyre saying is monday is the earliest the checks will be available. You can still wait to get yours when you come out to picket.

I totally agree with you scottie. there should be enough people at the union hall to take our checks to each of us at the picket line .

I agree with Scottie, Why are we required to drive all the way to Nashville to pick up these checks?
I am on the picket line on Sundays why can I not pick it up then?
Why can't these be mailed I will furnish my own stamp and envelope.

I am amember from Dickson, and suggest that you do as I will, and carpool on Mondays with some local Brother or sister, and share the expence! There is a good legal reason that the Checks are ONLY available om 1 day and time!

According to the Frequently asked questions page listed on the strike it states:
How long from the time we go on strike before I get my strike benefits from the Union?
If a strike lasts more than two (2) weeks, benefit payments are paid commencing with the 3rd week. Strike benefits shall continue to be paid through the last day of the week in which the strike terminates.
Why are we having to wait til the 4th week?

Will this check cover one week or go back since the time of strike?

If a strike lasts more than two (2) weeks, benefit payments are paid COMMENCING with the 3rd week. Strike benefits shall continue to be paid through the last day of the week in which the strike terminates.

DEFINITION
com·mence
transitive verb: to enter upon : begin intransitive verb1: to have or make a beginning : start

LOOKS LIKE WE ARE GETTING SCREWED FROM BOTH ENDS THANKS
BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

THE COMMENCING OF THE 3RD WEEK IS ON THE 13TH AND YOU ARE MAKING US WAIT UNTIL THE 20TH AND SOME OF US WERE DEPENDING ON THAT.

The check we receive on Monday the 20th is for the week ending Saturday the 18th at midnight. We’re getting our checks first thing Monday morning, following the 3rd week. That is the first business day. If the checks went out on Friday the 17th for instance, people who walk the picket line on Saturday would actually be getting their check before they walked. What if someone who didn’t walk got his or her check? That wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the members who did.

I personally think it’s pretty amazing that we get our checks as early as we do! Technically, the report containing who all walked can hardly be processed by Monday morning, and then I would assume it would take some time to process the checks and send them in from the Grand Lodge. I could understand if it took until Friday the 24th to get the checks processed delivered and passed out.

These checks are regulated under strict Federal law. If the Union had it’s way, it would be much easier but that is not the case. Driving in from out of town is a major issue for many of us. The Union is aware of that but has no control over the regulations that determine how the checks are processed.

Personally, I will probably just let some of my checks stack up for a few weeks. I know not everyone can do that. But please be patient and understanding. The Union is doing all it can. Suggestions like car-pooling are very constructive.

Thank you,

How long are we to sit in the dark about what is going on, does the union plan on informing us at the union meeting? Why are we having to wait so long for our strike checks? Why do we have to make extra trips to collect our strike pay? You have the list for when we walk why not pass out checks then. A lot of us have to drive 30 plus miles.

I would like to know what this federal regulation says about our checks and how they are distributed. Joe D.

I walk on Sunday so I will have walked 4 times before I receive my first strike check. Does that mean I will get a check on the back end of the strike that others don't get. Your checks you receive should be relative to how much you walk minus the first two weeks you don't get paid for.

Everyone will receive a check for every week they walk, except the first 2 weeks.

We are not waiting 4 weeks for our Strike Checks. Technically we are getting them first thing in the morning on the first business day, following the week we are being paid for.

We don’t get paid for the first two weeks at all. The 3rd week is the first week we get paid for and it ends on Saturday the 18th at midnight. The checks come in on UPS from the Grand Lodge. UPS does not run on Sunday (the 19th). The first business day following the 3rd week is Monday the 20th, and that is the day we get our checks.

I’m working on getting an answer for you regarding the Federal Regulation(s) surrounding our Strike Checks. This is what I have found out so far. First of all it will take some digging to actually find some particular regulation concerning this specific issue; it may be that there is more than just one regulation and that the process is designed to address all the regulations that might apply. It would be much easier for me if I could just point you to some PDF file in the net with a hyperlink. If and when I find something I will share it. I will be calling the International H.Q. tomorrow to see what I can find out.

I think it is also very important to mention that this process is used by all the locals across the country; it is not specific to IAM Local 735.

Why can't people stop complaining, and be thankful that they're even getting a check... you are getting paid $150.00 for walking for 4 little hours! That is more than Vought will pay you for four hours away from your families!!!
