SECOND ALERT

DON’T BE MISLED BY VOUGHT. On September 29th, Vought said on its website that it had a way for IAM members to cross our picket line without being subject to union discipline. It said that members could change to being “financial core” members, which would release them from any responsibility to the union except payment of fees. The company’s explanation was legally WRONG, and the IAM immediately put up an Alert to make sure that our members were not taken in.

On October 20th, Vought put up even more misinformation, including a letter for our members to use in supposedly changing to financial core membership. DON’T BE FOOLED. “Financial core” membership is a phrase that courts use to describe NON-members in states, unlike Tennessee, where unions are permitted to spread the cost of representation to all bargaining unit employees, whether they are union members or not. IT DOES NOT APPLY IN TENNESSEE.

The IAM establishes the IAM’s membership rules, not Vought. We do not have two tiers of responsibility. Either Vought does not understand the law, or they are trying to trick you. Don’t let them do it.

I know why they have to bring more scabs here by bus to work. Because they have fired a bunch of em for scraping parts and tools. Instead of going back to the table they go and get more scabs to scrap more parts and tools. Thats some smart thinking there. Thats why on their web site they are begging you to cross the line. Whos the dumb hillbilly now...he he he

Vought's 'Fact Checker #6' shows exactly how desperate they continue to be. This also makes me question the legality of their day-to-day business operations within the entire company. Could it be that Vought is being secretly investigated on the inside, from the highest level? I sincerely believe this to be true. You reap what you sow. You just can't fix stupid.

The bean counters, the VP's and the board room types may be learning why we deserve good pay. They always think "labor hours" which is a little simple minded. The are also paying us for our experience, specific expert knowledge and specific skill sets with unusual tools and equipment that take some time to become really skilled. They can replace "labor hours" but they do not have our experience, knowledge or skill. Upper management will hopefully relearn this lesson. The past as shown over and over their lack of understanding on this subject. When they have a 30 year guy retiring off a complex job and this guy may have $15,000 worth of knowledge in his head, they prefer to either let someone work with him at the last minute or not at all. They prefer to save a little payroll money than transfer that knowledge. Their system can't grasp or inventory this asset. The supervisors see it but they can't convince a bean counter. Maybe someone high up will say hey, "those Nashville people knew what the hell they were doing, make them happy and get them back in there".

I am an employee of Vought’s Nashville facility. This letter will serve as notification that I am changing my membership status in IAM Local 735 from that of a "fool" member to that of a "physical sore" member. As a "physical sore" member, I will continue to pay to the union all initiation fees and dues uniformly required of all members for maintaining membership. I am not resigning from the union, I am only stabbing my Union Brothers and Sister in the back. I will not, henceforth, be considered to have any integrity whatsoever nor can you expect me to every produce a backbone. While everyone else is out standing in the rain and in the cold, earning a good contract, I’ll be in the plant sucking up as much A$$ as I can.

Is it even legal for them to spread false information like this. I know they have been informed about this misinformation already.
